About VSG

Sleeve Gastrectomy is a surgical weight loss tool in which the stomach is reduced to about 25% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach, following the major curve. The open edges are then attached together (often with surgical staples, glue and possibly cauterization) to form a sleeve or tube with a banana shape. The procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach and is performed laparoscopically and is not reversible.

Extra skin

Saw a new doc this week that will be our new family doctor here.  He was a sweet old guy, very kind and soft spoken.  He seemed genuinely concerned about why I had WLS and asked me about skin folds.  I think this is a great thing.  He documented my folds and mentioned skin removal... I said yes i wanted it. From what I've heard, if its documented well enough, they will cover it on the BC health plan.  Fingers crossed.

For reference... this is what 15 yrs of yo yo dieting from 250-130 lbs does to my body for extra skin.  I have a push up bra on so you can't see the carnage up top unfortunately but after that appt, I thought I should document this somewhere.  This is why there will not be a midriff baring ANYTHING on me until this is dealt with.

  1. Your tummy looks like mine did until last Tuesday. I bit the bullet and had a tummy tuck. I'm very sore but already I can see a flat tummy! Best think I ever did! Hopefully youll be able to get yours covered by insurance. Unfortunately mine wasnt.

  2. Hey Girl, I feel your pain. My stomach was similar to yours, but I think, larger. Yes, I say "was" because I just had surgery on the 31st in Monterrey, MX; I'm actually still here. I got tired of playing BC Medical's bullcrap games and hoops, so we self payed. I got a breast reduction and lift, arms, tummy tuck, thighs and lipo all over. I'm 5 days post and really, really happy with my results thus far. I hope BC Medical does work out for you, my fingers are crossed. I'll be posting pics (good, bad & the ugly) of my surgery and healing process. Hugs and love your way. :)

  3. I have a feeling I will be self pay as well. I'm going to give it a year from when I hit 130's to stabilize before I take the next step. I'll be looking for lots of info on recovery times/pain etc so please post about it!!!

  4. What a great post to see this morning - I'm plagued by loose skin after my weight loss, too. I was laughing at your reference to the "carnage" with your breasts. I call my stomach/breasts "The Horror."
    :)

Thanks for sharing, and I love the comments above mine. So nice to know I'm not alone!
