About VSG

Sleeve Gastrectomy is a surgical weight loss tool in which the stomach is reduced to about 25% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach, following the major curve. The open edges are then attached together (often with surgical staples, glue and possibly cauterization) to form a sleeve or tube with a banana shape. The procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach and is performed laparoscopically and is not reversible.

A TYPICAL FOOD DAY

Breakfast :
1 Protein Shake 2 scoops
(Pro Performance Low Carb, Low Fat = 170 cal, 40 g Protein, 1g Carbs, 1g Fat)
1 cup Soy Milk

Snack: 1/3 c coffee with 1 regular sugar cube

Lunch : 1/3 cup of Chicken in a can mixed with Low Fat Mayo, spread on 1 Romaine lettuce leaf

Snack: 2 medium strawberries

Dinner: 1/2 Chicken Breast with bbq sauce, 1 floret of broccoli (or yam/cauliflower)

Snack:  Sugar free popsicle

Note: This is ALOT of food for me.  Usually I can't finish it all.  The denser the protein I'm eating, the less I need to fill up my lil 3 oz Sleevie. It takes me 20-30 minutes to complete my meals.

this and that...

Water is sooo much easier to drink lately.  I still can't drink too much at a time because I will end up with nausea  but at least it doesn't hurt anymore.

I started fruit.  I love strawberries.  2 and I'm full and oh so happy. Gawd they're so good.

Hubby made pork lettuce wraps for us last night for dinner.  I only had 1 and I was stuffed. It was hard for me to stop and not finish the one I had because my mouth was so happy but afterwards, sleevie let me know that I'd had too much and I should have had 1/2 to 3/4 of it instead.  Lesson learned.

My 1 month surgiversary is on Friday the 27th of May!

I need to remember to measure this week and post them here so I can keep track.  I hope to see some impressive things in the inch loss department.  It's funny how when you're sleeved, losses like 20 lbs seem "easy" and like you're a slow loser.  Pre-VSG I would have been beside myself to lose 20 lbs in a month but now, its easy to feel like a bit of a failure when you compare to others in the same time frame/journey.  Worst thing to do is compare but it happens whether you mean it to or not.

Vitamins

Tried Bariatric Advantage chewable vitamins today.  I was so nausous I nearly puked in my car on the way to work this morning.  I've been using Bio-Strath liquid vitamins up to this point.  I think I'll be sticking with them instead.

I am having difficulty reconciling with myself that I'm not supposed to be on a "diet" anymore and I think that its that mentality that has me beating myself up about this gain. I still have a long way to go apparently to learning how to eat mindfully while still allowing small indulgences so I don't feel like I'm on a diet and deprived anymore.

accountability

Over the weekend while we were camping I had some potato chips and I had 3 alcoholic drinks (clamato and vodka).  My guts weren't happy and I regret it immensely.  I spent a fair bit of time in the bathroom when I got home last night as a result. Sleevie was NOT happy.

I gained 1.5 pounds.  Back to 201.  I regret it and I'm back to clean eating today.  I know its not actual fat gained because I still wasn't eating near the calories I would need to in order to gain REAL weight but its disheartening anyway as I was hoping to see a lower number when I got home.

Lesson learned.  Stick to proteins first, if there's room, veggies.  Avoid carby items as they go down way too easily ... and that includes alcohol.
