About VSG

Sleeve Gastrectomy is a surgical weight loss tool in which the stomach is reduced to about 25% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach, following the major curve. The open edges are then attached together (often with surgical staples, glue and possibly cauterization) to form a sleeve or tube with a banana shape. The procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach and is performed laparoscopically and is not reversible.

My new addiction

Sugar free Popsicles! I love them!

Getting enough liquids in is a challenge right now due to swelling so I'm a bit dehydrated. I have to sip tiny little bits at a time and very slowly or I get a painful gas bubble. I also fill up really quickly. My stomach is probably only 3 oz right now so anything I can use to get my liquids in I am all for. Popsicles make me happy

Good day

Left Tijuana this morning. Rented a convertible and drove up the California coast to Laguna Beach. It was very nice!

Pain is less today although still on pain meds. Now though I have to chew them ... Yuck.

We found a sports bar in a town called Carlsbad here in California. We are spending the evening watching UFC before we head back to San Diego tonight.

Tomorrow we head home

Drain is out!!

yay.  OMG yay.  I cant believe how much better I feel after getting that drain out.  I can even actually get in a decent amount of liquids now!  I had a whole tea in one sitting tonight... AND 3 popsicles!

Feeling soooo much better.  Tomorrow we get to sit in the border crossing from Tijuana to San Diego.  Its apparently a good 2-3 hour endevour.  Good times, good times...  That part will blow but then we are back at our hotel in San Diego and hubby has rented a car for us for the day so we can do a little driving tour of the coast... maybe even hit up Sea World if they have wheelchairs or scooters... see how I feel tomorrow.

Cant believe the difference in how I feel tonight!

2 days out

I am not gonna lie.  It hurts.  There's been pain and a fair bit of it.  The gas pain is horrible and took a good 24-36 hours to clear up.  Feeling alot better today than last night.  I can now fall asleep at the drop of a hat..anywhere.  They're not too free with the pain meds it seems.  And what they do give is not very strong.  Granted, I can't take morphine so that may be why I'm hurting so much.  The drain they put in is very uncomfortable and is frankly a PITA.

Had the leak test today.  That was just so much fun.  They make you drink this nasty purple water that turns your whole mouth dark purple and then when you get to the radiologist, you get to drink even more foul tasting stuff while they xray your newly created stomach so that they can check to make sure you have no leaks.  Its absolutely disgusting.  I puked on the floor.  LOL.  but good news, no leak! Yay!

Freezies are the best invention ever.  If anyone reading this blog is getting this surgery, get as many freezies as they will give you.  Freezies make me happy.  :)

Its been a rough few days.  I have MAYBE ingested 1 cup of water in 2 days.  Its good that you get the IV the first day because I would be super dehydrated otherwise.  I'm trying to get my water/juice into me but its hard.  It hurts if you drink too fast and you either retch or burp.  So drinking liquids has been slow going that's why the freezies are so awesome.  They're easy to get down, taste good, give you a little bit of calories and liquids.

Staying at the hotel definitely has its advantages and disadvantages.  We get the quiet and peace to ourselves.  We have our own schedule.  But... there's no nurse checking on us like they have at the recovery house, there's no meds.   Its a PITA to get meds because they have to pick you up at the hotel, bring you to the hospital for the meds.  We at the hotel are definitely not getting the same level of aftercare that those in the house are, that's for damn sure.

I'm sucking back my isopure protein drink as best I can today.  My goal is to get the whole thing down ( a whole 237 ml) before bed :)

Surgery day

I'm all jitters. Currently gowned up and waiting on my IV to get put in. Hubby is upstairs eating. Lol. The bastard.

Just found out the hospital is full so he won't be staying with me in a room. :( This makes me anxious but it's only 1 night so if it's ok with him to sleep on the couch then he will stay. Otherwise I predict he will go to the hotel a day early. I have to room with someone I just met. That blows but I'm trying to take it in stride.

I'm more worried my hubby will be out of place and bored than I am about myself right now!

4am comes early

I barely slept a wink last night.  My restless legs were making me insane. Even now that I'm up - but sitting at the laptop - they're twitchy.  I'm so tired.  I wish I could sleep decently on planes.  I can't find my travel pillow either  *cry*  Hubby says I'm hyper because I asked him to take his CPAP machine apart so I could pack it for him.  I'm not a hyper person in the morning as a rule but I feel hyper and nauseous today.  I have a headache so that and the no sleep is likely contributing to the nausea.

I'll be updating as I can and I *may* decide to vlog as well... we'll see.

Tomorrow tomorrow

We leave here at 645am on our way to San Diego.  To say I'm feeling the jitters would be an understatement.  I'm not rethinking this decision.  I'm just nervous.  We're currently packing and trying to figure out how to only use 1 checked bag for the 2 of us.  Hubby likes to overpack.  I'm a little concerned we're going to be screwing around with last minute luggage changes at 5 in the morning....
Yeah so I've had to adjust my ticker a little bit.  I gained a couple of pounds in the last week because of my indulgences.  I'm hoping the 3 day liquids only diet will shrink that off before I get to the clinic. SO far in 1 day I'm already down 3 lbs.

super bummed

My fancy cup I just got?  The handle broke off in my hand and the thing crashed to the ground *cries*

I'm totally contacting the company for a replacement!

Day 1 Liquid Pre-op

So far it sucks but that's all mental I know. Currently drinking down the first of many protein shakes/slimfast mix.  Already loving my new cup I got on BodyBuilding.com  It's called the Tornado.  It's cool.  Has batteries and mixes really really well.  That's good because I have a hell of a gag reflex and if there's any chunks I'd hurl.
