About VSG

Sleeve Gastrectomy is a surgical weight loss tool in which the stomach is reduced to about 25% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach, following the major curve. The open edges are then attached together (often with surgical staples, glue and possibly cauterization) to form a sleeve or tube with a banana shape. The procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach and is performed laparoscopically and is not reversible.

Wowee its been months!

So things haven't changed a ton since I last posted other than I'm more aware of how much I'm drinking and I'm doing alot better with that.  I'm replacing alot more wine with water these days  :)

I guess the true test that things are going well and uneventful is that I didn't even post when I hit my 2 year anniversary!  I am still maintaining, still dreaming of body reconstruction, and lastly still critical of my body.

This surgery will not change your perception of your body no matter how much you think it will.  Sure, you might not see the same number on the scale as you did months/years post-WLS but you WILL still see the same thing in the mirror.  Make no mistake about that.  You will go from seeing fat, to seeing the skin left over from your fat.  It affects your body image.  It affects your size in clothing.  It affects what you *think* you can do because you feel as big as you did pre-op.

I really want any pre/newly post/post WLS patients to read over and over that paragraph above.  You may think "it won't happen to me!"  I guarantee, it will.  Maybe not in the first year when you only have wins but outside that... when you stop losing and move to maintenance... be aware this WILL happen at some point!  I didn't think so myself, but it did as did many others.

Over 2 years out from my sleeve... I still do not drink any carbonation and I still try to keep protein as my first choice.  I don't always make the best choices but I do enough of the time to continue to maintain my weight loss.

  2. I agree that surgery will forever change the way we think about our bodies. I think it's kind of normal. For me, I was so critical of my body when it was heavy that of course I would be crtiical of my maintenance body! Ya know?
    ps where did you go?
ps again.. visiting from formerly loosingweightgaininglife.com and now at caseofmomdays.wordpress.com

    1. Hi Sam!

Sorry I have been living & LOVING life so I'm never around now! I have dropped away from many of the sites I used to post at too... I really wanted to be one of those people that stayed around to give my insight but the further I got out the less I wanted to be there. I also got extremely annoyed with newbies giving advice on how to manage foods, what to eat etc when they had terrible information. It felt like a never ending battle of NO, YOU CAN'T DRINK WHILE YOU EAT. NO YOU CAN'T HAVE SODA, NO YOU CAN"T HAVE A BIG MAC ...etc etc etc. Drove me mad so I stopped coming around anymore.

I'm constantly critical of my body pre and post op. That doesn't change overnight and the stories we tell ourselves will always be niggling at us telling us we can or can't have this or that... its about doing the right thing for our surgery and following our doctors orders. Everyone falls down sometimes but this surgery allows you to pick yourself back up.

I'm still here (and still happily in maintenance!) but these days I get alot of google crap posted so I don't even bother to come by much but I get an email every time someone posts here so I saw your comment that wasn't a "spider" so I wanted to come by and reply before life got in the way again :)

I do need to update my tracker though as (thankfully) I'm no longer 132 lbs. I felt very unhealthy and super skinny at that weight. I had alot of problems with fainting etc so I'm up a little bit from there but still in a healthy range. :)

  3. Hi,
I just read your WHOLE blog in one afternoon. Thanks for sharing! My sleeve is scheduled for 11/19. My top weight was 245. I am scared and psyched. Do you have another blog or place you post? I'd like to keep reading.

    1. Hi Nellie, thanks for reading! You're going to do great! I don't have anywhere other than my FB page noted on the right side of the page that I post sometimes.... I have fallen victim to most post-ops in maintenance and stopped posting because I'm enjoying life as a slim person!
